On the 30th June, perfectly in time for the full on diving season, FUAM in collaboration with other clubs and the PDSA organised a talk by Professor Alan Deidun, the main marine biologist behind the Spot the Alien Fish citizen Science Project.
With the collaboration of ATLAM, one of our affiliate member clubs, who provided the space for the talk, this event was a welcome educational experience for those not aware of the reasons that the Mediterranean is being colonised or inhabited by multiple new species from, sometimes, quite exotic places.
Apart from the sources of these “invaders”, Professor Deidun also highlighted potential impacts and risks. The participants were also encouraged to contribute sightings through the project website at http://www.aliensmalta.eu
